Seven Kruesi Award Finalists Selected For Innovations
Winner To Be Announced At Chamber Luncheon In May posted April 4, 2006
Seven Chattanooga-area companies have been selected as finalists for the 6th Annual Kruesi Award for Innovation which will be presented at the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce Spirit of Innovation Awards Luncheon on May 10. All finalists will be honored during the event.
Finalists are ALSTOM Power, Inc., Brake Tech Tools, Clarity, General Hydrogen Corp., Shared Health, TC Thiolon USA and World Technological, LLC.
The Kruesi Award recognizes companies for innovative products, services, and ways of doing business that have been created and implemented by businesses in the Chattanooga region.
George W. Buckley, chairman, president and CEO of the 3M Company, will deliver the keynote address at the luncheon, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in the Chattanooga Convention Center.
Brake Tech Tools is a Kruesi Award contender for the design and manufacture of high-quality brake measurement instruments that assess the remaining brake lining with no wheel or brake drum removal, saving time and money and improving safety.
"Recognizing the number of unnecessary brake lining replacements and the time, effort, and dollars required to inspect brakes, as well as the human error that comes with "eyeing" brake wear, we committed to developing a better, more accurate and safer method for measuring brake wear," said Myron Graham, president of the company. "Our goal was to develop products that are durable, inexpensive, efficient and simple to use."
The products are tools that do not require removal of the backing plates or drum to do an in-depth inspection of brake drums and to make a sound assessment literally in seconds, Graham said. This saves time and money for maintenance facilities and inspectors and enhances safety since brakes are not released during use of the brake tools and can be inspected with or without dust shields or backing plates.
